Dr. Kristen Fischer (she/her), VMD
Kristen has called Washington, DC home for more than 30 years. A graduate of Maret School, Kristen went on to obtain her undergraduate degree in biology at Brown University and later enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine where she graduated summa cum laude in 2002. She then moved to College Station, Texas to complete an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. It was there that she met her husband, a fellow East Coaster, in a sea of Aggies. She practiced general and emergency medicine in the Houston area for 3 years before returning to Washington, DC.Kristen enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, but has developed a particular interest in internal medicine and dermatology. She also values working with members as a collaborative team to keep their pets happy and healthy. After working in the DC area for nearly 16 years, she is delighted to have found a place like Small Door that values that collaboration as much as she does.
If you ask Kristen if she has any favorite breeds, she will tell you it’s too hard to pick just one – but she will readily admit to having a weakness for dogs with beards and cats who chirp. When not working, Kristen stays busy at home spending time with her family and herd of animals. Together with her husband and two sons, they share their home with two dogs- a wiggly wire-haired Vizsla named Dean, and a snuggly little terrier mix named Poppy. They also have an African Grey named Marty and four (for now) chickens.
When time permits, Kristen loves working outside, escaping to the beach, and getting lost in a good book.
Special Interests: General practice, wellness and preventative medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, and geriatrics.
