Dr. Jyothi Alagappan (she/her), DVM
Dr. Jyothi Alagappan grew up on Long Island and has had a love for medicine since a young age. As the daughter of an Emergency Physician, she always thought she would obtain an MD, but realized her passion for animals later on in life.Dr. Alagappan attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where she received a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and Behavior Biology. She then went on to obtain her veterinary degree from St. George’s University in Grenada where she completed a one year rotating internship at a large Specialty/Emergency practice in Atlanta, GA. She worked in small animal general practice and emergency medicine for 3 years before joining THRIVE Affordable Vet Care in 2018 as their Area Medical Director. Dr. Alagappan helped open and aid 15 hospitals throughout the Southeast and Central region before she became the Group Medical Director for BluePearl Pet Hospital (SE), where she helped to support a myriad of clinics. More recently, Dr. Alagappan was the Area Medical Director of the Mid-Atlantic for Veterinary Emergency Group where she took part in opening over 10 emergency hospitals during her tenure.
Dr. Alagappan is thrilled to be returning home and supporting Small Door Veterinary’s West Village practice. She is excited to continue to help pets, grow veterinary professionals into leaders and serve the community with exceptional care. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis, going to SoulCycle, seeing friends and family, trying new restaurants, traveling, spending time with her goldendoodle, Luna, rooting for the NY Yankees, and staying involved with the Emory and St. George’s University communities.
